How to Solve the Ringed Planet Dot-to-Dot Puzzle
Far beyond Earth, a giant planet turns while broad, glittering rings sweep around it — a sight so striking that ringed planets are often the very first thing people picture when they imagine outer space. This friendly 43-dot puzzle creates the planet and its rings across four short stages, making it a fun first space challenge. Find dot 1 at the top of the planet and begin your journey outward.
1–11 — The Top of the Planet
Connect dots 1 through 11 to draw the curved upper edge of the distant planet. A smooth, even curve here sets the shape for the whole planet body that follows.
Planets look round because gravity pulls their material toward the centre evenly from every direction, gradually smoothing out any lumps or bumps.
12–22 — The First Ring
Continue from dot 12 to dot 22 to trace the first wide arc of the ring system. Keep the curve gentle and sweeping, since real planetary rings are extremely broad and thin.
Saturn has thousands of narrow ringlets that blur together into what looks like just a few broad rings when viewed from far away.
23–33 — The Planet's Lower Curve
Follow dots 23 through 33 around the lower half of the planet, keeping the curve smooth. This section mirrors the top of the planet, so try to match its roundness.
Saturn is a gas giant made mostly of hydrogen and helium, the two lightest elements in the universe.
34–43 — The Rings and Finish
Finish with dots 34 through 43 to complete the sweeping rings on the other side. Just ten dots remain — a smooth final arc completes the ring system.
Saturn's rings stretch incredibly wide but are surprisingly thin — in places, less than a hundred metres thick compared with a diameter of over 280,000 kilometres.
Wonderful work — your ringed planet is orbiting among the stars! Discover more dot to dot printables for every age.
